Music Opportunities

Music Opportunities

In addition to the instrumental, choral, and general music offerings during the school day, students attending St. Lorenz Middle School have an the opportunity to participate in several extra-curricular music programs.

Lutheran Schools Music Festival

Held yearly, the Lutheran Schools Music Festival offers our students the opportunity to praise God through music.  Students will showcase their love of Christ through choral and instrumental pieces.  Additionally, students are able to showcase their God-given musical talents through solos, duets, and ensembles.

Jazz Band

Jazz Band is an optional “enrichment” class where students learn to play swing, rock and jazz styles of music. The ensemble performs at concerts, Christmas, Bavarian parade and a few other “gigs” during the school year. Students in grade 7 and 8 are welcome to audition (try out) for Jazz Band.

Church Bands

The Church Band, or “Wind Ensemble,” as it is called, is made up of seventh graders through adults who play a traditional concert band instrument (woodwind , brass , or percussion). Players meet and perform separately as the “Woodwind Choir” and “’Brass Choir “ but come together with added percussion to play for concerts, festival worship services and the annual July 4th Patriotic Praise in the park. Working in harmony with other players, and in humble service to the church, ensemble members strive to faithfully use their God given talents with a spirit of dedication, self sacrifice and excellence.

Youth Praise Band

The Youth Praise Band leads contemporary worship music at the “Connect” service in the gym on the first Sunday of the month. Guitarists, vocalists, keyboardists and drummers make up this ensemble. The group is open to Junior High and High School students who are gifted musically and have a heart to serve in Christian music ministry.

Girls of Grace

Girls of Grace is a Christian Dance Ministry within St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, dedicated to serving the Lord through worshipful, interpretive dance. This ministry is made up of over sixty dancers from grade 4 through college. The group receives its directive and inspiration from Psalm 149:3. “Let them praise His Name with dancing!”
